[explorer.natureserve.org] Range, Habitat: Sidalcea malviflora ssp. malviflora is in western California (usually below 520 meters) from several northern Channel Islands northward to Mendocino County, occurring on slopes and mesas in coastal prairie, scrub and open forest; it can be locally common. The range has been reported to extend to southwestern Oregon, but those plants may be ssp. patula (Abrams 1951; Peck 1961; Hickman 1993). (contributed by Mary Ann Machi)
