Cupressus macrocarpa, a gymnosperm, is a tree that is native to California and is endemic (limited) to California alone [Lum/Walker].

The California Invasive Plant Council (Cal-IPC) lists plants that cause serious problems in native ecosystems. In the 2006 list, Cal-IPC classifies the statewide impact of Cupressus macrocarpa as limited (plant profile).

It was included in the CNPS inventory of rare and endangered plants on list x[1B.2] (rare, threatened, or endangered in CA and elsewhere).
